John Erb Committed to Assisting Elderly, Homebound and Disabled

Spectacle Entertainment’s Majestic Star Casino Food and Beverage Director, John Erb, is dedicated to his work with Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana. Erb currently serves as a board member, with a focus on the operation committee, concentrating on the review of monthly functions for the organization.
As part of his dedication to the community, Erb participated in this year’s Meals on Wheels “Dine with the Chefs” gala on Sunday, March 1. The benefit, held at the Avalon Manor in Merrillville, marked the 20th year of the fundraising celebration. According to the organization’s Business Development Manager, Jodi Bella, a total of $90,000 was raised for Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana.

Several area chefs participated in the event, presenting a variety of menu items, from soup to dessert. To kick-off the day, Majestic Star Casino Director of Food and Beverage John Erb, Executive Chef Marvin McDaniel and Sous Chef Josh Figueroa offered the group Creole-style hushpuppies and maple-glazed pork belly appetizers. Adding a bit of flare and fanfare to the occasion, Majestic Star Casino Sales & Catering Manager, Malcolm Jones, served as Master of Ceremonies at the upscale affair.
Erb, known around Majestic Star as “Mr. Positive,” has a habit of helping out those in need. He and his team recently prepared and provided hot meals for 40 residents of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Gary, after an issue with the facility’s kitchen.
And, Erb takes his work with Meals on Wheels to heart by driving the Merrillville route every Monday. Over the past six months he has spent several hours each week delivering hot meals and doing wellness checks on the elderly and homebound. During visits to local homes, he often helps by picking up the mail, taking out the trash and assisting with other chores.
“Participating in ‘Dine with the Chefs’ was a great honor for us,” stated Erb. “I’m proud to partner with the folks at Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana. The work done by this organization is about more than providing a meal, it’s also about a friendly visit and a wellness check on those who may be home-bound, elderly, ill or disabled. I truly believe those we serve look forward to seeing me every Monday. I know we can help make someone’s life a little brighter, and that’s a wonderful thing.”
Since 1977, Meals on Wheels has delivered nearly eight million meals to seniors, other adults and children throughout Northwest Indiana. For many Americans, Meals on Wheels is the difference between seniors remaining in their homes and needing to relocate to a nursing facility.
“At Majestic Star, we take our commitment to the community very seriously. Our company’s giving strategy is ‘ALL-IN.’ We’re dedicated to making a difference whenever we can, and I’m pleased to help make a difference through Meals on Wheels,” Erb added.
